2nd Assignment: Elder Portrait
Below is the prompt I put together for the next assignment: photographing an older person. Attendance involves a paid subscription. Pay for a single month, rather than the yearly version, if you’d like to try it out!
While age doesn't guarantee wisdom, I appreciate the perspective that comes from a long life. I'm also drawn to the raw authenticity of advanced age. Unburdened by the expectations of youth, older subjects often let their personality and eccentricities shine through.
Their unique physical traits, like skin texture, body movement, clothing choices, and environments add character to a portrait.
Just make sure you're aware of, and move beyond, visual cliches. Choose subjects that genuinely interest you, and create dynamic, multi-dimensional portraits where age is just one aspect.
The next meetup is Monday, October 7th, 7 PM EST. (Assignment deadline is one day before, October 6th. Please email your images to me at chris@chrisbuck.com. One final picture, with up to three alternates.)
